I left school in 1998 with 7 GCSE's and a GNVQ in Art & Design.
I graduated from Bilborough sixth form college with 3 A levels in Art, Communication Studies and Computing.
This is what gave me a foundation in art & design, as well as teaching me about relational database and programming concepts.
Before my degree I did an Art Foundation diploma at college.
This covered a broad range of topics; from painting and print-making, to life drawing, illustration and graphic design.
I moved up north to study graphic design at the university of Teesside.
It was here that I began to specialise in web design in particular. For my final project I created an animated typeface (using Flash actionscript).
My design concept won a competition and was chosen to represent the faculty's degree show in the form of a poster, collateral and exhibition signage.
Shortly after moving back home to Nottingham I landed my first junior role as a designer at Media Hut.
As well as designing and artworking packaging for CDs and DVDs, I also designed and built websites and multimedia projects.
My next role was as an in-house designer at CAME; an Italian company that manufacture and distribute home automation systems.
I gained valuable experience in a commercial environment, as well as honing my technical skills in my chosen specialism of web design.
I also ran a highly successful email marketing campaign.
After gaining much commercial experience, it was time to apply my skills in a creative agency environment.
I was offered the role of Digital Developer at Tribe. It was here that my responsive design skills were utilised to their full extent; working on a range of exciting projects for blue chip clients and smaller businesses alike.
In 2013 I did a talk at Second Wednesday on the subject of responsive web design.
The talk was attended by over 100 people and was very well received. I have also given seminars on the subject of HTML emails.
In 2015 I joined Splendid Apple, a small team of digital specialists based on the outskirts of Loughborough.
In 2016 I joined Spacecraft. As a senior member of the team I am responsible for delivering high quality digital services to users of higher education, public and 3rd sector websites in the UK, US and Australia. With a focus on simple effective design, code quality and accessibility.
